I started Toronto Floating Homes after buying my own home on the water and discovering just how difficult it was to find clear, reliable information about this tiny community. Now I help people understand what floating home life is really like — and navigate the very different process of buying or selling one.
HOW I ENDED UP ON THE WATER
I spent almost a decade living overseas, and somehow I was always near the water. It became a big part of how I lived, and when I moved back to Toronto, I really missed it.
Then I discovered the floating homes and houseboats at Bluffer’s Park.
The idea of living right on the lake, surrounded by nature but still in the city, felt like the best of both worlds.
Eventually, my family and I took the leap and bought one of our own.
That experience also came with a lot of questions. How do you finance a floating home? What does the marina fee cover? What happens in winter? How does insurance work? And what exactly are you buying when the home floats but the slip doesn’t?
I quickly realized that reliable information was surprisingly hard to find.
Toronto Floating Homes grew out of that experience. Today, I help people navigate buying and selling floating homes, and share what life on the water is really like.
